Every once in a while a film comes along that’s so funny it nearly makes you pee your pleated khakis. That movie is DAD & STEP-DAD, an improvised comedy about an uncomfortable three-day weekend of bonding between a dad (Jim), a step-dad (Dave), and a 13 year old named Branson.
These lost souls spend the weekend together at a cabin upstate in an effort to bond. Tensions mount, however, as differing parenting techniques come to the fore. A symphony of passive-aggressive quibbles delivered in hushed tones, furtive glances, and tense silence, the film plays like Frederick Wiseman directing an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Listed in Esquire as one of the "41 Most Anticipated Films of the year," DAD & STEP-DAD was shot in four days during the summer with a production budget of only $18,000. Goatees, braided belts, pleated pants, and arguments about air mattress firmness take center stage in this riotous comedy that proves sometimes raising a son takes two different guys.
Do you identify with the uptight paper plate designer dad, Jim, or the freewheeling gym-part replacement salesman step-dad, Dave? Weigh in with actors/co-writers Colin Burgess and Anthony Oberbeck during a live Q&A after the screenings on Fri. 2/16 and Sat. 2/17!
