Tanod Lupa & CISPES Seattle Present: EL SALVADOR, ANOTHER VIETNAM
Just a week ahead of Boeing Seafair & the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels military exercises in Seattle – join Tanod Lupa & CISPES Seattle for a screening of Glen Silber’s documentary EL SALVADOR, ANOTHER VIETNAM. Earning an Academy Award nomination in 1981 for Best Documentary Feature, this film examines the long role of U.S. military intervention in El Salvador through the 1970’s– important historical context to the current crisis of forced migration, the intensifying attacks on migrant communities in the U.S. and human rights defenders in El Salvador, and the Trump administration's concerning ties with de facto Salvadoran president Nayib Bukele.
This 53 minute film will be followed by community discussion on the impacts of the U.S. military on countries of the Global South, especially in regards to U.S. military operations against decolonial and liberation movements, ranging from El Salvador to the Philippines and beyond.
CISPES Seattle is the local chapter of the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES), a grassroots solidarity organization that has been supporting the Salvadoran people’s struggle for social and economic justice since 1980.
Tanod Lupa (Tagalog for “Earth Guardian”) is an organization based in South Seattle that is building solidarity with land defenders as they struggle against environmental destruction and degradation. It is a member of the Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle network and the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP).
