Anton is a teenage burnout whose daily agenda consists of smoking weed, watching TV and accomplishing absolutely nothing. Then his right hand gets possessed by the devil and murders his parents. Soon his two best friends are dead, Anton is trying to cut off his own arm, and the hottest girl in the neighborhood is somehow still interested in him. Luckily, death doesn’t prevent anybody from hanging out.
IDLE HANDS could only have escaped from 1999: Devon Sawa in enormous pants, Seth Green and Elden Henson as undead couch potatoes, Jessica Alba in angel wings, The Offspring playing the school Halloween dance and Rob Zombie’s “Dragula” on MTV while everybody gets high on the couch. It captures teenage life in the last few minutes before everything went digital—a suburban wasteland of weed, music videos, convenience stores and endless hours with absolutely nothing to do. Then it dumps a homicidal severed hand into the middle of it and starts spraying glorious rubber gore.
