In 2016, the Colombian government and the FARC, a Marxist-Leninist guerilla military, achieved a peace agreement after 50 years of conflict. SCARS ON THE EARTH (CICATRICES EN LA TIERRA) follows those who laid down their weapons and rejoined civilian life.
Letting go of their dreams of a new Columbia, four ex-FARC members find new channels for their creativity, political engagement and grief, all while working and caring for their families. SCARS is a study on the painful beauty that emanates from the unfinished mourning for old ideals, for a country that could no longer be, and the colossal challenge of building from the ruins.
Proceeds from this screening will be distributed to displaced and unhoused refugees in Seattle.
Starting Saturday morning June 1, a large group of refugees lost housing. After talking to Comunidades Sin Fronteras and Movimento Congolese Angolano, they estimate around 75% of the 140 people staying at the Kent Quality Inn will have no other choice but to camp. The folks staying at the Kent Quality Inn were dispersed from Powell Barnett by the City of Seattle after being promised housing for everyone for two months. Ultimately, the city of Seattle only helped house a portion of the Powell Barnett encampment, leaving around 140 people--including 10 families with children--out.
