Calvin Lee Reeder, one the Beacon's favorite homegrown filmmakers, has made his bones with a psychotic body of work comprised of lo-fi avant garde psychotronic nightmares, risibly grotesque short comedies, and—for the local old heads who remember when it was terrorizing the airwaves—the legendary SCAN public access tv show JERKBEAST. Now he's back with his most cosmically goopy and stealthily heartfelt film yet.
In THE A-FRAME, a quantum physicist develops a machine that creates a tunnel to a subatomic universe. In his quest to prove the machine's efficacy, he inadvertently discovers a radical treatment for cancer. But with all experiments, things can, and sometimes do, go horribly wrong.
"With THE A-FRAME, Calvin Lee Reeder has crafted a love letter to the mad science-fiction horrors of the 80s, whilst advancing the genre in his own intricate and subtle ways." - Kat Hughes
"A body horror film disguised as a black comedy, THE A-FRAME is definitely Calvin Lee Reeder’s most accessible feature film, and those familiar with his short films will see an evolution of his unique visual and narrative style here. Funny without obvious jokes, gross in a way that will have gorehounds howling, and cleverly written with a handmade feeling that endears us to these everyman characters, it’s a belter of a film that should give Reeder the wider audience he’s long deserved." - J Hurtado
