The charismatic leader of a pansexual drug commune unwittingly becomes the subject of a shy young sociology student’s thesis in this feature debut from future TIMES SQUAREM, PUMP UP THE VOLUME and EMPIRE RECORDS director Allan Moyle.
Unhinged weirdo painter Steve (SCANNERS star Stephen Lack) has carved out a reputation as Montreal’s premiere drug connection, trafficking narcotics with a crew of friends (and lovers) living as a makeshift family on the fringes of society. But tensions rise when the police catch wind of their latest shipment, and Steve strikes up a friendship with a university student eager to observe the group’s illicit lifestyle. As the walls start to close in, old jealousies and new paranoias surface, and the queers all scramble to adapt or perish. THE RUBBER GUN is an incredible mélange of Cassavetes, Warhol, John Waters and Canadian charm.
“Easily my favorite Canadian film. THE RUBBER GUN has sadly not been seen by anyone. Let's change that.” - Bret Berg, AGFA
Restored in 2K by Canadian International Pictures from the original 16mm A/B negatives.
