Forgotten filmmaker Eagle Pennell was once the pole star of '70s Texas cinema -- a reputation cemented by this shaggy-dog horse opera that nails the special brand of epic underachiever-dom and aspirational decay SLACKER would make famous in the '90s.

THE WHOLE SHOOTIN' MATCH reimagines the modern western with indolence and borrowed grace. Lou Perry and Sonny Carl Davis play a pair of loser/dreamers whose harebrained schemes and bald-faced lies (ones told mainly to themselves) barely get them through the day. They also toss back enough liquid courage to place them in the AlcoHall Of Fame!

"American dreamers, American schemers, fortune and glory kids, pioneers, salt of the earth, the determined men that won the west and built this great yadda yadda yadda. Eagle Penell and Lin Sutherland's screenplay first makes us laugh at the get rich or die tryin' working class buffoons who still believe in the American dream, but then just as we start to endear to them, tears back the flesh to reveal a sadness and nearly insurmountable dysfunction at their core, only to bring us back at the end to a place of glowing admiration for these two flawed but warm humans. Trapped in a system that overvalues transactional relationships, drowning in it, even. Bros before gold." - Laird Jimenez
